Multi-functional Technology maintains wellbeing of Sports enthusiasts

Now that the good weather seems to have returned to the UK (hopefully for a long while, fingers and toes crossed) sports enthusiasts can enjoy outdoor activities again, such as playing golf or tennis, in the leadup to the forthcoming major tournaments here.  No doubt all eyes will be on the top performers such as Tiger Woods who has announced he will play at St. Andrews Open in July. But with mounting physical and personal life problems, the last thing on his mind would probably be how well his shirts will hold up.  But with active sports, comes perspiration which can cause fluid loss that in turn can affect performance.  And as a result, the person can experience a decrease in stamina and concentration.  Schoeller Technologies AG: the Switzerland-based licensing company for innovative textile technologies, has developed the 3XDRY® technology that supports a player’s overall wellbeing, as perspiration is immediately transported away from the body and distributed widely across his clothing. As a result, the moisture can evaporate very quickly and close to the body, supporting the body’s natural cooling function, therefore reducing perspiration. The natural cooling effect of 3XDRY® ensures greater wellbeing and sustained energy. Also, the  unpleasant feeling of a shirt sticking to the skin occurs less frequently and disagreeable perspiration marks are practically invisible from the outside. Sportswear brands that embrace this technology include Bogner and Hugo Boss (Green label).  Bogner has been successfully utilising the 3XDRY technology in various golf shirts that provide breathability and fast-drying functions, such as  these in single jersey with appliqued badges.  Hugo BOSS' Green label uses the 3XDRY® finishing technology also for their golf and sportswear collection in classic cuts.
“Golfers out early in the dewy morning benefit from the high level of water resistance of this textile finish; for example when crossing wet fairways. Later, when the sun is beating down around midday, the advanced moisture management helps cool the body down,” explains José Janga, Senior Head of Creative Management BOSS Green.
Studies have shown that a loss of moisture through perspiration of as low as 2 % of body weight, performance capacity sinks by up to 20 %. The result is a drop in stamina and concentration, which can negatively affect the score over 18 holes, as well as the enjoyment of the game. According to Schoeller, textiles with a 3XDRY® finish also dry quicker after washing. The high level of functionality remains intact for well over 50 washing cycles and can be reactivated time and again through heat treatment (ironing or dryer).  Garment technologists take note.  As for Tiger Woods, his sponsor is top sports brand Nike which utilises moisture management also for its golfwear to keep the world's No. 1 feeling cool and looking swell, no matter what.  Nike’s new advert featuring Tiger Woods seems to draw a line under the scandal surrounding the disgraced golfer’s private life and focus on his return to the sport.
