It was another lovely warm day in London today, thankfully not as scorching as it had been in the weekend. I was in posh Chelsea. As I was not able to attend the prestigious and chic Chelsea Flower Show - the highlight event on the international horticultural society's calendar - as tickets had already been sold out when I got around to it, so I dropped in the Saatchi Gallery which was transformed for the first time into an exhibition venue for wedding gown designers.
Named "White Gallery London", the event showcased some of the finest bridal gowns by designers from around the world. Among the highlights was a display of couture fresh flowers - not in vases or flower pots, but on exquisite bridal gowns by designers Ian Stuart, Ritva Westneius and Stewart Parvin shown here. They had collaborated with celebrity florists to produce the handmade masterpieces. Each designer had paired with a florist to match each other's creative style - Ian Stuart with Neill Strain, Ritva Westenius with Zita Elze and Stewart Parvin with Matthew Dickinson - to produce the one-of -a-kind flower wedding dresses.
Elsewhere at the fair, I spotted beautiful wedding gowns in bold red from Hollywood Dreams (perfect for those Oriental brides who traditionally opt for auspices red than white).
Among my favourite were beautiful gowns at Alan Hannah where designer Marguerite Hannah had added splashes of colour on her white bridal gowns, by decorating them with hand-painted floral motifs or appliqued floral corsages.
The model in the photo below shows off one of their best-selling designs.
Marguerite suggested the bride to do away her bouquet of flowers and hold a nice purse instead. I think the same can be said for those gowns decorated with fresh flowers as mentioned above.
